In the mid this year; words runs through my mouth, but I felt that I wasn’t fit enough to stand on opinions on my community issues, Jos North, Plateau state. I resigned and changed my mind. For that; I must spill out the beans through thick and thin.
It’s now the moment when by common consent we pause to become conscious of our community and to rejoice in it, to recall what our community done for each of us, and to ask ourselves what we can do for our community in return.
Gone are the days whereby community service and community development were path of our life, attitude, and hubby. Now the reverse is the case.
Years back we had good road system, and proper hygiene environment, the life was near perfect bliss; now those road system has turned to ponds and lakes. It’s our duty to fix those road not to wait for the government intervention.
Week earlier; a neighbor’s wife was in her labor at late hours, we tried to rushed to the hospital, but the city roads are completely submerged, traffic had came to standstill, we spent an hour and half due to the broken road with heavy rainfall. Alas! She lost the pregnancy. She’s still suffering from Fistula epidemic.
After a marathon journey down to my apartment. Someone, rushed to me, hurriedly, and stopped me. Trying to have some words with me at my discomfort, but I couldn't resist. Thought it was about the incident and our broken roads. It wasn’t. I was wrong.
It was a long story but what makes it unique will be told in brief.
'I've examined you entirely; personal life and human relationship', He said.
I was amazed with a deep shocked. Oh! Really? I replied.
Suddenly, he interjected the amusement with recommendations whose tidings I never planned for.
"After my examinations, I got to know that your entire life is based on capitalism, I mean you're a capitalist", He added.
I was pissed off. I was about to roll up my sleeves and fight, but I resigned and changed my mind. Because I realized that every pool can do that, and I want to be above that.
I forced a fake smiles, and replied to him in a typical and diplomatic manner, 'of course yes, I'm a capitalist and profit is my motive'. Do you have a problem with that? I asked.
He stood rhetoric and walk away shamelessly, without uttering a single word, neither turning back to look at me.
This is to say we absolutely lacked the ‘the power of togetherness’ in jos north, as far as on one cannot share the feelings of anothers’ sadness, rather open a room for gossip. We Can’t go anywhere further as far as we can’t pause and think of how to develop our community.
Recently a speedy runner on the broken roads, lost control and hit two youngsters which leads them to their earlier graves. Had it been we fixed our broken roads this wouldn’t have happened.
This youngsters live might be a beneficial to the society and the country at large. Let’s do it together.
However; many cars were broken down on the broken roads, how strange those luxury cars belong to the big men of our our community whom had never thought of solving their problems.
For that I will like to call on the attention of the entire community of Jos North, plateau State; that this is the home of our making, no one can solve our problems better than us. Let’s make our community better again.
Remember; we have more that unite us than divide us, together everyone achieves more. Let’s forget the differences and do it together. God bless Jos North. God bless Plateau.
